Wyoming joined the United States as the 44th state on July 10, 1890. It was the first U.S. state to allow women to vote. It was also the state in which the first female governor was elected. After Governor William Bradford Ross passed away, his wife Nellie Tayloe Ross was elected to finish his term. She served as the 14th governor of the state from 1925 to 1927.
