Did you know?

The Europeans started out history in the state of Florida. A decade after it was rumored Juan Ponce de LeĆ³n accompanied Christopher Columbus on his second voyage in 1493, he was governor of what we now call Puerto Rico. He began his search for the ā€œfountain of youthā€. In order to follow through, Ponce de LeĆ³n led an expedition that led him to what we now refer to as Florida. He landed during the Easter season and because of the plant life he found there, Ponce de LeĆ³n named the peninsula Florida. In Spanish, Pascua Florida means ā€œSeason of Flowersā€. Upon arrival, LeĆ³n thought it was the island of Bimini where the fountain of youth would’ve been found. When he went back in 1521 to colonize the land, he was injured by Indians which was ultimately fatal to him at a later date.
