The Salem Witch Trials took place in colonial Massachusetts, during the spring of 1692. Over 200 people were accused of practicing witchcraft and worshipping the devil. 30 people were found guilty, and 19 were executed. This all began when a group of young village girls claimed they’d been possessed by the devil. They then accused multiple women of practicing witchcraft. Five of the accused died in jail, whilst one was crushed to death. Twenty-five total deaths took place during the accusations.
In better news, back in 1938 the owner of Toll House Inn, Ruth Wakefield invented the chocolate chip cookie. Originally they called them “Toll House Crunch Cookies” after she threw a couple of semi-sweet chocolate chips into her cookie dough. Soon enough they released the recipe in the local paper and from there it’s history!
